AAF Spokane

In addition to brand and marketing work, I stayed actively involved in Spokane’s creative community through the American Advertising Federation (AAF).

This involvement focused on supporting local events, connecting with industry professionals, and creating opportunities for emerging talent — helping strengthen the creative ecosystem beyond day-to-day marketing work.

Leadership & Involvement

I was actively involved with AAF Spokane for over 15 years, serving on the board from 2005 to 2021. During that time, I held multiple leadership roles, including President, American Advertising Awards Chair, and Collective Campout Chair.

This long-term involvement allowed me to contribute to the growth and direction of the organization while building strong relationships within Spokane’s creative community.

Collective Campout

This involvement helped strengthen connections within Spokane’s creative community, while also informing a more community-driven approach to brand and partnership work.

Staying engaged with industry organizations like AAF created a valuable feedback loop — connecting real-world marketing work with the people and ideas shaping the creative field.

“It's about making our creative world smaller and more collaborative, and showing that these people are accessible and willing to share and collaborate.” –  Mellie Price, Inlander Article: “Off to Camp” ↗

Mentorship
& Emerging Talent

A key part of this involvement was supporting emerging creatives. Events like Preflight provided opportunities to connect with students, review portfolios, and offer guidance — helping bridge the gap between education and industry.

This work reinforced the importance of investing in future talent and contributing to the long-term strength of the creative community.

Event Involvement

Through AAF Spokane, I supported a range of industry events, including the American Advertising Awards, Create and the Preflight Student Portfolio Review. These events brought together professionals and emerging creatives, creating space for learning, feedback, and connection.

In addition to participating, I helped connect Global Credit Union to these events through sponsorship and support, ensuring they were well-resourced while aligning the brand with the local creative community. This allowed for a more active and meaningful presence within the industry.
